What Would a Year Look Like?

I have been seriously considering doing a photo-a-day scrapbook also known as Project 365 or Project Life. After seeing the gorgeous kit on Becky Higgins' blog, I feel motivated to do this.

I've ordered the Real Red linen ring album and a few page protectors to help me get started.

Traditional, digital or hybrid scrapbooking? For this project, digital all the way. Okay, maybe a little bit of hybrid scrapbooking. Why? With the number of photographs involved, it will be too overwhelming to print, organize and put together a weekly layout. My Digital Studio or any other photo editing program is a perfect tool for this kind of project.

Why a photo-a-day project? With big changes coming into my life (i.e. our 1st baby), it will be a great way to document what life was like a few weeks before the baby and life afterward. Also, I know with these life changes, scrapbooking will be something I will have to put aside.

Let me know your thoughts on a photo-a-day project? Are you going to try it? Or will it be a weekly or a monthly endeavour?

Some Decorating

My husband was in a decorating mood the other day so he strung up the little stockings and placed the Christmas shrub in the corner of our home. Yup, the Christmas shrub. We cannot have a real Christmas tree in our condo and I do not want to store a fake tree in our already cramped space, so the shrub it is.

Home decorating with the Ho's

While he did the decorating, I decided to do some baking. I made red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. A few red sprinkles and dragees...perfect.

Now, some gifts have to be wrapped...or not!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

I've been slacking a bit on the December Daily pages, but I managed to get caught up during the weekend.

The 12th: Christmas lights @ mom & dad's.

December 2009 album 018

The 13th: Cupcakes from Big City Cupcakes. A special treat from my sweetie.

December 2009 album 019

The 14th: Watching my sweetie write Christmas cards. He's more concerned about the hockey game.

December 2009 album 020

The 15th: Hot Chocolate. Need I say more?

December 2009 album 021

My album is about the little and big things that take place over the holidays. We don't have set traditions yet. Maybe next year with our wee one.

First Day of Winter

It certainly doesn't feel wintery in Vancouver. Cold and rain. Typical weather.

We've been trying to become somewhat festive in our home, but it's been rather difficult being on bed rest. We received some wonderful Christmas cards from family and friends this year. Usually, I would line them up on the fireplace, but this year, I attached them to my Umbra Fotofalls tree which I purchased at Winners.

Cards on display @ home

As we receive more cards and photos, the tree will fill out leaving a beautiful cascading effect.

One of the cards we received was from my upline, Kari, which was made with Stampin' Up!'s My Digital Studio. It's such a gorgeous card.

Thought I would share a layout I made about my trip to Sprinkles in Newport Beach this year. I love cupcakes and will seek out any bakery to get my hands on some.

This layout was inspired by Kelly Purkey. She used the wooden spoon and similar patterned paper on her layout as well. Too cute. I had to do the same for my layout.

As for the cupcakes....they were delicious!

The Cards are Ready

Christmas card 2009

The other night, I was in "the zone" and ploughed through making all the Christmas cards that we will send out this year.

I designed most of the card in Photoshop. It was easy. I added digital patterned paper and the various greetings to the photograph which was then printed at the local photo lab. The size of the photo is 5x7. Afterward, I added additional paper from the stash piled on my desk including the Merry Moments designer paper and the mistletoe ribbon.

The rest was simple. Add some glue and stick to the front of the card.

Gingerbread Adventure

Last year, like most years, we went to see the Hyatt Regency Gingerbread display.

Gingerbread 08 2

I love how the lobby of the hotel smells so good like you stepped into a bakery. Mmmm. It makes me hungry looking at all the beautifully decorated gingerbread houses and figures.

I'm a little behind on my scrapbooking. ;) Using what festive items I had, I made a two-page layout about our gingerbread adventure. The highlight was being able to stick our heads through the cookie cut-outs. I hope they bring that back again this year.

Santa Bears

Santa Bears

I was playing around with the Build-A-Bear dies the other day. I had a blast putting the outfits together. It reminded me of the paper dolls I had as a kid.

This was the same card we made during the Technique Club last week. I think the ladies had a great time using the Big Shot and dressing up the bears as well.

My clubs will resume in January -- just in time for Sale-A-Bration. If you are interested in joining the club, making new friends (or just having girl time) and learning new stamping techniques, then let me know and I'll send you the details!

Merry & Bright

Just playing with some scraps. The card was based on a sketch from Taylored Expressions.

I added some glitter to the wires hoping that they would sparkle a bit more. It looks better in person.

A Step Up Card

Punch Pals Step Up

I saw a version of this card in the Splitcoast Stampers gallery and I can't remember who designed it. I loved it so much that I cased it and put it up here for all of you to see.

The card is a stair fold card. The paper is folded at different intervals to create the stair or step illusion. I used the Holiday Punch Pals set (again!) and painted the images in with my aquapainter. If you don't have this set, you really must get it.

The backgrounds were created by tearing whisper white cardstock to fit in each of the stairs. I cut out a top note die cut for the taller background. The card involved a lot of colouring, cutting, gluing and glitter, but I love the end result.

Glad you could stop by!

A simple card.

I had this vellum quotation sitting in my drawer of forgotten scrapbooking supplies. Actually, I have several of them. As the Christmas season is approaching, I finally felt now was the time to use this quotation. Don't know why. I could have let this piece of vellum sit there for another five years.

But I sure like how it turned out.

As an aside, today is my two-year wedding anniversary. Yay! It promises to be an exciting day!

Why I love my honey:
  • He takes care of me all the time
  • He makes my meal decisions (because meal preparation is not my forte)
  • He folds my clothes like one would see on display at Holt Renfrew
  • He makes silly jokes that make me laugh
  • He loves all my crafts, even the not-so-good ones
  • He leaves notes around the house reminding me to do things
  • He lets me be me
Happy Anniversary, Babe!

He's Coming!

Santa, that is!!

This stamp set, Just Beclause, is really cute! I really enjoy colouring the image or, in this case, using my aquapainter and watercolour.

It may be difficult to see, but I applied crystal effects to Santa's hat and coat trim which I hoped would give it a glossy look. I also applied some flocking powder to Santa's beard to make it look fluffy.

Santa close

I will try and repost this image again with a closer view of the details.

My Process...so far

Here's a quick peek at my pages for my December Daily album. I'm so excited about starting on this project.

The cover page. I used Stampin' Up!'s textured cardstock throughout this album. I also used up some of my stash. The black numbers on this page are die cut number from KI Memories, probably discontinued, and a small portion of a larger 12 x 12 piece. The letters I cut using the Big Shot.

December 2009 album cover

I dedicated one page per day and kept the numbers and embellishment simple. Since I am a "slap it down" kind of scrapbooker, I don't expect too put too much work into this. I want to enjoy the Christmas season and take in the moments.

More to come on the evolution of the album. Play along & use your all your holiday stash. Once it's gone, it will be a great excuse to get more!

Gift card holder

'Tis the season. We made this gift card holder at a recent workshop. It was very simple. The card (8.5" by 5.5") was scored at 2" and 6", the shorter flap was glued to the middle by its sides and the rest was decorating.

I love the Christmas Cocoa paper.

Inside, place your gift. It can be a gift card or a packet of cocoa or tea.

Missed the sketch deadline

Merry - Red

I originally planned to submit this card to Beate's weekend sketch challenge last weekend, but I missed the deadline. I still wanted to show you this card since it uses heat embossing!

The snowflake, from the Serene Snowflakes set, and the Merry Christmas stamp are embossed with white powder. Such a great technique!

Punch Pals in Green

Punch Pals - green white

I love the Holiday Punch Pals set. It's so versatile. I love how I can use various punches to punch out the shapes just perfectly.

This is a card I designed in green using several different SU colors - old olive, green galore and glorious green to name a few.

What Am I Up To?

Now that the holiday season is officially upon us, I've decided to embark on a scrapbooking adventure called December Daily. This is a project that Ali Edwards (my favorite scrapbooker) has been doing for a few years now. This year, I decided that I, too, would document the days leading up to December 25th.

I do not have plans to take a photo for each day, but I do intend to document my feelings, moments and sensations that are all part of the Christmas season. By recording my memories in this manner, I don't feel guilt in not taking a picture for each page.

Before one can complete such an album, the structure must be built. Ali does a great job of describing the process in this post. I have decided to take the hybrid approach, that is, a combination of paper and computer scrapbooking. My photo printer has been feeling a little neglect and now is a great time to use it.

December 2009 album printer

These are the supplies I've gathered thus far:

December 2009 album supplies

I'm using a multitude of supplies from Stampin' Up! as well as stash I've accumulated from various shopping sprees and contests. Hopefully, I can use up every Christmas and holiday themed product I have for this album.

My layouts will be 6x6 and I will be using the
6x6 linen album to hold my memories.

This project is not meant to be complicated or overly challenging. You don't have to use a scrapbook album. Pages bound by ribbon or binder rings work too. Whatever your style is, let it flow. This project is meant to help you enjoy and remember the journey to Christmas day. Not add to your stress. Do as much or as little as you want to.

There are no mistakes in the world of paper crafting. Just happy accidents.

I hope you'll play along with me.

Stay tuned as I post my process in the coming days.

Dasher on Display

Did you know that Definitely Decorative elements also qualify for hostess benefits?

The Dasher decor element is a Level 2 hostess gift which you can get for FREE with a workshop of $395 or more.

Dasher element

This decor element is fun, elegant and perfect for the holiday season. Rather than place my Dasher on the wall, I painted a 16x20 canvas with a bright holiday red acrylic paint and used the applicator to adhere the decor element to the canvas.

Easy peasy. And a quick way to dress up your home in time for Christmas! This canvas will soon be hanging above my fireplace.

The only way to get the Dasher decor element is to host a fun Stampin' Up! workshop!

Contact me today to get in on this great hostess gift.

TESC #88

So I am back at it with another great sketch challenge from Taylor.

I thought it would be great to get a last minute Halloween card made before the season was gone. This was a great chance for me to use my pumpkin and spider punches. They are non-Stampin' Up! punches (gasp!) that I purchased last year. They were on sale and I couldn't resist.

All the paper products are Stampin' Up! including the die-cut letters from the Billboard alpha strip.

A Mellow Moss Greeting

Thank you leaf

I made this card for a customer using mellow moss cardstock and retired stamps. The leaf stamp was from a retired hostess set called Darling Dots from the previous season's catalogue. It's a great set!

The customer's color scheme was an earthy green and black. Mellow moss was the perfect color. The leaf was stamped in versamark ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. Heat embossing is one of my all-time favorite techniques.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend!
