On My Desk...

A mess...

Workdesk 56 1

I'm cleaning out my cardstock scraps...organizing my stamp sets...categorizing my embellishments...sorting out all the different cards I've made...

Workdesk 56 2

Piles of cards to sort through. What should I do with them all? Should I sell them? Would anyone want cards? Can I give them away to somebody or some place?

Your thoughts?

Inkspirations #29

Inkspirations 29

An Inkspirations Challenge.

I love the Pendant Park set, but haven't found much use for it. The two squirrels on the park bench always makes me smile.

I used the retiring In Colours (crushed curry, dusty durango) for this card since I seem to have a lot of it. The sentiment was left off the card on purpose. I am leaning toward making this a retirement card...we'll see.

Cards for Boys

Cards for Men tryout 2

The card above was inspired by a sketch from Cards for Men. Now that I have a boy, I think I should load up on my arsenal of little boy cards and stamps. I stuck to primary colors and chose an image that most little boys love -- trains. Baby Z is too young to have a preference, but I'm sure anything with wheels and makes noise will be right up his alley.

I stamped an image of the train on the inside of the card too.

Cards for Men is also looking for new design team members and I've decided to throw myself out there and try out for it. The following cards are my submission for the design team call.

Some tips for creating manly/boy cards:
  • Keep it simple. Keep embellishments, patterned paper and images to a minimum. Very few men I know like loud and overly embellished cards. Also, the flowery images should be minimal, if not avoided.
  • Use neutral and earthy colours for men; bright, primary colours (red, yellow, blue) for young boys. Secondary colours such as orange and green are great for little boys too. For teens, I find metallic touches like brads and grommets are give it a nice elemental, modern touch.
  • Keep the design simple too. Don't try to throw too many layers onto your card.

On my desk...

Workdesk 55

What am I working on?

Baby Z's baptism invitations. My desk is literally covered with Close to Cocoa cardstock, retiring designer series paper, ribbon, glue and junk.

The Special Blessings stamp set is one headed for the chopping block. Boo! It's a great set for all religious occasions - baptism, first communion, confirmation, weddings - and everything else in between. I don't think I can give up this set. It may just stay in my private collection.

Only a week and a bit until the new catalogue arrives. Check out the retiring products and be sure to grab your faves before they are gone!

Quick Cupcake Card

CIC 64

Today's card was inspired by these colours from the Cupcake Inspiration Challenge and this sketch from Inspired Crafters. Yes, the Inspired Crafters sketch is from May. I am so behind on their challenges, but now I'm getting into a groove with the baby, I can craft a little more. Most of my cards have been of the 5-minute variety, however. As for scrapbooking...well, let's not go there...

I chose Bravo Burgundy, Bermuda Bay and Old Olive as the card colours. The cupcake punch is from Martha Stewart. Too cute.

CIC 64 inside

I tried my hand at decorating the inside. I may do this more often when making cards with a darker long as it's quick.

Happy 1st Day of Summer!

Clean & Simple FTL 95

A quick birthday card for the Clean & Simple Challenge this week. Summer always brings about lots of birthday parties and having a summer birthday myself, I'm looking forward to lots of sun and fun.

This card used up what was left of my Crushed Curry cardstock and ribbon as well as scraps I had lying around. The leafy image in the punched circle is from the Pendant Park set and was stamped with Certainly Celery.

Cute and easy.

Dreaming of Paris

Well, this new stamp set - Artistic Etchings - from Stampin' Up! is perfect for the romantic in you. The set is not available until July 1st, so you'll just have to wait two more weeks until you can get one too.

This card is based on a sketch from Everything but the Kitchen Sink - a neat challenge blog with a great name. I used Bravo Burgundy as the base of this card. The large Medallion stamp was stamped with versamark ink on a pale grey background and spritzed with gold glow smooch spritz. "Spritzing" is new to me, but I think I am going to love it. All the images were stamped in Bravo Burgundy.

It's a romantic card which I may give to my husband today as it's his first father's day. We'll see. Baby Z may have another card in mind.

With a flourish

The challenge for One-Layer Wednesday was to create a card with a flourish on it. I love flourishes, but I don't have a lot of stamps with that going on.

Anyway, I tried (perhaps too hard) with this card using stamps from the Elements of Style set - a new stamp set available in the summer mini catalogue.

I'm not all that pleased with the outcome, but I'm posting it just because the not-so-nice cards deserve to be recognized too.

Drowsy But Awake = HA! Whatever, Mom!

So, I've been trying to help Baby Z sleep on his own by laying him in the crib "drowsy, but awake" as all those sleep training books say. Well, it doesn't work for my son. He just pops those eyes open and decides it's play time.

Ideally, Baby Z would close his eyes and drift to La-La Land like he does when held as demonstrated by Aunt Stephy.

7 weeks

But he tends to flail those arms around...

8 weeks

or give me a dirty look...

8 weeks

or smile.

8 weeks

Most of the time, it's lots of screaming and tears.

What's a tired mommy to do? Rock, cuddle, soothe...repeat...all night long.

If he wasn't so cute, I would try to return him.

Father's Day in Sunset

A collection of oranges were used to create this father's day card. This card was based on this week's Sweet Sunday Sketch.

Sweet Sunday Sketch 73

Retired colors & products used: Dusty Durango, Glorious Green, Rich Razzleberry designer paper
The father's day sentiment was stamped using a brand new ink color -- Cajun Craze. I love it. This color will be perfect for my summer & warm weather pages.

Don't forget to respond to my survey if you haven't already. There is a prize involved if you choose to participate!

Good Friends & Cupcakes

Nothing is better than sharing cupcakes with a friend.

This card was inspired by the photo at Cupcake Inspirations. I love the colors in the photo and used this as the basis of the card.

Cupcake Inspiration Challenge 63

Perhaps there is just a bit too much topping on this cupcake, but I love my cakes with icing in excess. Besides, the sweet pea felt pieces are just darn cute.

Bermuda Bay is a fun, tropical color that will be retiring at the end of the month. All the coordinating accessories will also be retiring too. The sentiment is part of the "Good Friend" stamp set which will be one of the many stamp sets saying goodbye. Sniff. This is one of my favorite sets.

Remember, if you order $25 of Stampin' Up! product through me by June 30, I'll send you the new catalogue for free.

Up & Away...

A quick and simple card for the Clean & Simple FTL 94 sketch.

Clean & Simple FTL 94

I used the retiring items I have on hand: In Colour cardstock in Crushed Curry, retiring colours Barely Banana and Only Orange as well as the retiring designer series paper Razzleberry Lemonade. I will miss that DSP. It was really funky.

The balloon images and sentiment were stamped with a new SU! colour, Early Expresso. I think this is my new fave ink. It's darker than Chocolate Chip, but not quite black.

I was lucky to whip this card up as quickly as I did since my 2-month old does not sleep at all! Not a sleeper, not a napper. At least, he has a very happy disposition, so he lets mommy craft while he plays with his toys nearby.

If you haven't had a chance to look at the retiring items, I suggest you run to my online store now and see what's left. Remember, purchase $25 of Stampin' Up! merchandise between now and June 30 and I'll send you a free 2010 - 2011 catalogue. Plus, you'll be entered in a draw to win a brand new stamp from the new catalogue. Ready? Set? Run!!
