A mover & a shaker...

Baby Z 14 weeks

It's getting harder to get this little guy to slow down. After throwing his toy up onto his shoulder, he's gone into a kicking and arm waving frenzy. And the hair...well, that has a mind of its own. He'll be at the yard sale too.

It's not easy...

being green.

Pollycraft - Tortoise

After successfully completing the first part of the Pollycraft challenge, I was given another freebie for Part 2. How cute are the tortoises?

Since the challenge was to "think green", I went ahead and coloured the cuties in all shades of green that I could find. The base of the card is Old Olive and the ribbon is Certainly Celery. I can't remember all the greens I used to colour the tortoises, but there should be more than four.

The image made me think of friendships, so thus, the sentiment from the "All Holidays" set.

On my desk...

Another Wednesday! Thanks to those who visit my blog and comment. I will certainly try to get better at visiting and commenting on everyone else's blogs. I love seeing the creativity that is going around.

My desk...chaos! (Photos taken Tuesday night.)

A close-up:

On My Desk

I am in the planning stages of a class in the near future. How one can work in the midst of all this mess dumbfounds even me.

A picture of Baby Z that I plan to scrapbook in the future.

Baby Z & the Giant Nutella

My aunt & uncle came back from Europe with this giant jar of Nutella. In Europe, Nutella is like peanut butter to us in North America. My family loves Nutella. We eat it directly out of the jar. And we were thrilled and astounded when we saw this jar sitting on the counter.

The Nutella weighs 5 kgs and Baby Z weighs slightly more than the jar at 3 months. Of course, I needed a photo! The expression is priceless. A Nutella lover in the making.

Thanks for stopping by today! Enjoy your Wednesday!

One of my favorite things

Another great sketch challenge from Everything But the Kitchen Sink. Imagine my surprise when I learned that I was named a "domestic diva" for this card. I don't usually get my cards recognized, so this was a great honour.

For this sketch, I decided to create a digital scrapbook page.

Favorite Things

The stuff I used:
Digi Kit: Funky Elephant Kit from Adori Graphics
Polaroid Frames: Kayla Aimee
Journalling Block: Karla Dudley

The journalling is a phrase from the new Canon commercial featuring its new camera. Don't know which version. Anyway, the commercial features a baby being filmed and photographed with the new camera. Near the end of the commercial, someone sings the phrase above.

Being a new mom, everything about Baby Z is fascinating, so he's clearly my most favorite thing and will be forever.

"You want thing-a-ma-bobs..."

"I've got plenty!"

CIC 67

This week's Cupcake Inspiration Challenge featured mermaids. Since I don't have a mermaid stamp, I used a digital stamp from Pollycraft. A freebie digital stamp which made it all the more sweeter. The Sweetest Thing was the sketch inspiration.

Mermaids, since watching a certain Disney movie several years ago, will always have red hair to me. Well, I guess there's that Tom Hanks/Daryl Hannah movie too...she was a blonde mermaid...I don't know. Madison is not a "mermaidy" name to me.

CIC 67 close

Okay, back to the card. I had left this card sitting on the desk for a while unfinished since my craft room was so hot. I finally had a chance to finish it while Baby Z took a nap. I took the Vintage Wall  embossing folder out of the packaging, broke open the marina mist & cajun craze cardstock. Frankly, I'm not loving the cajun craze. I don't know if it's trying to recreate spicy and hot. I'm not feeling the orange/red/puke feeling it conveys. Ms. Mermaid was coloured using a combination of Copics and SU markers, cut out and placed just so on the top note die cut.

Who would I give this card to? A mermaid lover like one of my nieces.

On My Desk...

It's been unbearably hot in our condo this past week, so I haven't been able to make anything or post much. We have been escaping "the sauna" during the day and returning in the late evening. My desk has remained pretty much the same since the weekend.

On My Desk 58

I am playing with the Big Shot and my border punches. My favourite border punch of all time is, of course, the threading water punch from Fiskars and a close second is the scallop punch from Stampin' Up!

What's going on? Well, I decided to try making the paper roses that seems to be the rage in crafting blogland. I do not have a petal punch (gasp!), so I used the Island Floral Die for petals. See the upper right-hand corner for the outcome. I think the roses are okay. Not fantastic Maybe I do need a six-point petal punch or an easier flower to recreate.

I finally received the Vintage Wall embossing folder that seemed to be backordered for forever. I love it! I opened up a package of Marina Mist cardstock and went to town. I have no idea how this card will turn out. It's an irregular size and out of my comfort zone.

On My Desk 58

Also, I decided to play with markers. Since Stampin' Up! went through a colour renovation, I took my markers and started comparing the hues. I'm glad that Pumpkin Pie was not eliminated during the renovation as it's my go-to orange.

12 Weeks Old

Baby Z has discovered his hands. He spends the early morning hours (usually 4 or 5 AM) sucking on his fist - LOUDLY. It's more like slurping. I'd find it really cute if it wasn't so early and I hadn't been up with him an hour or so earlier.

Vintage cupcakes

Vintage cupcakes

I don't know if there is such a thing as vintage cupcakes, but I thought I would give the vintage technique another go with cupcake images. Red velvet cupcakes or as best as I could muster.

I had to make this card fast because my craft room is incredibly hot - scorching - even in the evening and I had to get outside before I overheated.

I used the sketch from Taylored Expressions this week and the cupcake theme was inspired by Raise the Bar's baked goodies challenge. Of course, for me, this meant red velvet cupcakes.

The colours I used: Bravo Burgundy, Basic Black and Very Vanilla. I stamped the cupcake images with Staz-On ink onto watercolour paper. After playing around with the watercolour technique and various papers, SU!'s watercolour paper is the best for colouring without the streakiness. More on that in another post. Once I completed colouring the images, the edges of the paper were swiped onto the Bravo Burgundy ink pad. Nothing special here -- I just ran the edges across the ink pad. Next, I sprayed some gold smooch spritz onto the card. I definitely "over-smooched" (over-spritzed?), but it is what it is.

Here's a close-up of the smoochiness or spritziness...whatever you wish. :)

On my desk, confessions & sleep-training...

Remember the scraps of paper on my messy desk from last week? Well, I decided to turn them into this...

Workdesk 57 1

Matchbox favors for my son's baptism which is in just a couple of weeks. Yes, I had that much scrap paper. How convenient that they are the recently retired Stampin' Up! In Colours.

Workdesk 57 2

If you've been following my blog, may you'll remember the invites on my desk from the week before? Well, the invites and the favors don't match. Why? Because I ran out of the cardstock that I used to make the invites and I forgot to order more. Now, I can't because Close to Cocoa is a retired color. Besides, this change in colour scheme makes everything a little bit more funky. The guests can fight over which colour box they want, but does it matter? The contents are all the same. But I know my family, they will argue that one matchbox has better stuff than the other matchboxes. Hello? Family? Are you reading this? The contents of the box are all the same.

In my past life, pre-Baby Z, I would have cared about colour coordination. Everything, down to the table linens, would have matched even if I had to dye it myself. As a sleep-deprived, insomniac first-time mom, it doesn't matter anymore.

Baby Z is now 12 weeks old & I have learned quite a bit this short amount of time. Allow me to elaborate:
  • I am a first-time mom. I know nothing. Somedays, I am running on pure adrenaline.
  • Nothing brings you to your knees faster than a baby with glass-shattering, ear-piercing screams at 3 AM. I surrender. You, Baby Z, are, indeed, the boss.
  • Baby Z rarely naps. If he does, it's 20-minutes at a time. Sometimes, 30 minutes. This is to fool me into thinking that I will have time to indulge in a leisurely breakfast/lunch/snack or maybe linger in the shower for a little longer. Sometimes, I, foolish Mommy, think that I can start a scrapbook layout. HA! I have not scrapbooked since March.
  • 12 Weeks Old
  • Sleep-training makes me laugh. Sleep-training makes Baby Z laugh, cry and then scream. I've read all the books. Yes, I'm aware that Baby Z is too young to sleep-train, but I should attempt to put him to sleep "drowsy, but awake". I must be doing something wrong. My efforts have yielded nothing. Read this post here.
  • Sometimes, Baby Z sleeps for more than 4 hours at night. That's when I forget I have a child and begin making a card or thinking about scrapbooking. He quickly reminds me.
  • I am amazed at how little sleep I need to function. That's function. Not act like a normal human with a range of emotions. Most days, I am blank.
  • Well-meaning friends have suggested that I try to do some work while Baby Z plays. Maybe he can entertain himself. OK. You try that. See his sweet face below. It's hard to ignore and resist.
  • 10 Weeks
  • If I do ignore him, he will attempt to grab my attention by smiling, grunting, squealing and, of course, screaming.
  • I get weak when Baby Z smiles.
  • 9 weeks
  • Motherhood is an amazing journey and I am blessed that my son chose me to be his mom.

If you made it this far, thanks for stopping by and indulging me in my rant.

Hi Cupcake!

Cupcake Inspiration #66

I love the cupcake challenge! A concoction of pink, red, green, blue and vanilla - how sweet and irresistable.

Again, I used up my patterned paper stash - this time the Sending Love paper. I also dug up the Petals-A-Plenty embossing folder to create additional texture on this card.

Cupcake Inspiration #66

On the rose, a little bit of crystal effects was added to give it that glossy look.

Are you loving that scallop punch? It's new and extra large. 2-3/8" to be precise. I like that it can be layered with the smaller scallop punch which is also offered by Stampin' Up!

Thanks for looking!

Sweet little box

Inkspiration 30 & TESC 119

Taking my cue from Makeesha, I made a 3-D object for the Inkspiration Challenge. I used the fancy favor die to create the bag. The front of the bag was inspired by this week's Taylored Expressions sketch. The colour challenge was perfect since it helped me use up some of my stash. I'm always looking for projects to use up my stash since that will allow me to buy more stuff!

The images were stamped with the Elements of Style set in crumb cake, formerly kraft. This box is destined to be a gift for a friend and filled with 3x3 thank you note cards.

Red velvet, white & blue

Cupcake Inspirations 65

Today's card was inspired by this photo from Cupcake Inspirations.

I wanted to create a cupcake shop window using the Crazy for Cupcakes set. I stamped the cupcake image with Staz-on ink and coloured it with markers. The awning was punched using the scallop edge punch. Of course, the larger cuppies were punched from my MS punch.

Cupcake Inspirations 65

Inside, I stamped a sentiment and another round of cupcakes.

I woke up this morning so excited to share it with you. Where to begin? The colour renovation, the designer series paper, the stamps!!!!

This catalogue is 16 pages more than last years and full of awesome stamping goodness. And there is suggestions for colour coordination and coordinating accessories throughout. Stampin Up! really outdid themselves this year.

What are my favourite items in the catalogue? Glad you asked! There are far too many to mention, but here's a short list:
  • p. 95 Make a Monster (118742 wood/120606 clear) - Fun for little kids, especially my boy
  • p. 107 Butterfly Prints (120738 clear) - Coordinates nicely with the butterfly punch

Okay, that list is just for starters. I'm pretty sure I will be placing a huge order!

Let's not forget the Definitely Decorative Catalogue.

My faves are on the front page. I am definitely getting the chalkboard elements. It's a perfect way to write messages to my husband when he gets home late from work.
