On My Desk

I finally ordered all the things I wanted needed last week and took advantage of the free shipping offer. Now, I'm waiting anxiously for those goodies to arrive.

After attending my Stampin' Up! group meeting the other night, I was inspired to make some more Christmas cards. My desk is still a mess, but I don't think it will change any time soon.

Baby Z is teething, hence the cheeky expression. He's got two lovely bottom dwellers erupting and takes every opportunity to use them on his mom.

Here we are taking photographs in front of the dirty bathroom mirror. {Sigh}. He's obviously much more fascinated with the camera.

Happy Almost December!

Oooh, December almost is here! And so are all the festivities that come with it. I must admit, I am not one for participating in many holiday activities, preferring to stay home or hang out in a much more intimate gathering.

Today, I decided to share a card using some of the gorgeous designer fabric that is available at 50% off - today only!

Merry w fabric

I love the ruffled look on so many of the cards I've seen lately that I decided to recreate the same look. What's so wonderful about using this fabric is that I didn't have to sew. Just some staples and glue! Really!

The Candy Cane Christmas fabric coordinates so wonderfully with the designer paper. Now, looking closely at the photograph, I should have dusted off that speck on the ribbon. Oh well, not quite on the ball today.

The LAST Day!

    Non-traditional Valentine

Tonight, I will be attending my group meeting. As part of that meeting, we have to create a card to swap with the other members.

I decided to create a Valentine's Day card using the non-traditional colours of Marina Mist and Early Expresso. The card design was CASEd from another demo, but I can't remember her name.

    Hugs & kisses

On the background panel, I embossed a panel of Early Expresso using the dots embossing folder. Then, I ran the Love jumbo wheel with Versamark ink onto Whisper White cardstock. I used clear embossing powder, heated the design and sponged Marina Mist ink onto the design.

I stamped the design with the I {Heart} Heart stamp set and the sentiment from the All Holidays set. Additional hearts were punched out from textured cardstock (yum!) and added as accents. Of course, no card is complete for me without some bling.

Another take on the card - this time, without any pink.

    Hugs & kisses

      Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends!

      Studio Sketches Thanks

I wanted to create a card using the Studio Sketches stamp set. Although it's difficult to tell, the image was stamped onto watercolour paper. The pears were cut out, coloured and popped up using dimensionals.

I used the fantastic colour combination of Peach Parfait and Certainly Celery. The mini clip is available right now on clearance. At $2.49, it's a steal!

      Rich Razzleberry & Red

      Cardabilities 35

A Rich Razzleberry base with traditional Christmas colours. I thought I would be a little bold and try this combination out for the Cardabilities Challenge.

I cut out the Top Note die cut with chipboard first. Then, I placed strips of scrap paper along the die, making sure that the entire die was covered and taped the paper together to ensure that the strips stayed in place. The strips were glued onto the chipboard as one piece.

Unfortunately, I didn't plan my card very well. The poinsettias were meant to be at the bottom right of the card, but due to space constraints, I had to place them in the upper right. Rhinestones were placed in the centre of each poinsettia and added as a strip above the scallop circle.

Don't forget these awesome deals. They're only available until November 30th. So act fast!

      On My Desk...

Well, the snow came and has decided to linger, which is unusual for Vancouver. One would think that snow could have been here for the Winter Olympics earlier this year, but no, Mother Nature has other plans.

      Holiday Matchbox

      Matchbox christmas

I'm getting into the Christmas spirit! I spent the evening making little gifts out of the Matchbox die and Candy Cane Christmas Paper.

      Matchbox christmas contents

Inside, I placed four chocolate nuggets, each wrapped with a band of Christmas paper. The tag is part of the Matchbox die. The sentiment from Word Play, a cool set, available in both wood-mounted and clear-mounted.

The Matchbox die currently 30% off until the end of the month. Can you resist? This is such an awesome die. I've used it to create gifts, party favors and sweet 3-D items.

Use your Designer Paper for more than cards and scrapbook pages. The glittery paper from the Candy Cane Christmas Designer Series paper will definitely give your gifts some POP! It's funky and modern. Who doesn't love bling?

      Z in a box

      Z in the Box

This month's scrapbook challenge at Inspired Crafters was a sketch.

I decided not to go with the circle theme, but use blocks lined up in a row. I also kept many of the same elements. Circles are hard for me because I don't enjoy cutting them out unless they are punches.

Baby Z enjoyed his adventure in the box and tried to climb out. He liked it in there.

      Rub a dub dub

      Rub a dub dub

Bath time for Baby Z! I created this page for the Sketchabilities challenge (see sketch below) and Scrap That Baby! Looking at the layout now, I realize that the top elements are crooked. I blame sleep-deprivation.

I introduced some hidden journaling onto this layout. This is the first time I've tried this technique and it's pretty cool.

I made sure to indicate that the viewer has to LIFT the top photo to see what is hidden beneath. I know that I will certainly forget and it's a great visual reminder.

      Art Freckles Nov Card challenges

I decided to create another card for the Art Freckles challenge. This time, I created a religious card. This stamp set, Rejoicing in Christmas, is clean and simple. Perfect for those who don't have a lot of time to spend making elaborate cards, but still want elegance.

I stuck with the colour scheme of grey, turquoise and white, plus a little bling to jazz it up.

      Using up scraps

      Inspired Crafters challenge

This challenge from Inspired Crafters asked that we use inspiration from this sketch and some scraps to make a card. Although the challenge asked for a Christmas card, I wasn't in that kind of a mood.

Again, simple is best for me. I used up the last of my butterfly pansy flowers and arranged it and the stamped images in a row as in the sketch. A quick sentiment and it's ready.

      • A soon-to-be completed layout of Baby Z
      • Lots of Stampin' Up! containers full of brads and buttons
      • Bits of paper from various projects

      Art Freckles Nov Card challenges

I'm always on the lookout for easy sketches for cards as I find that I'm always short on time. This month's Art Freckles challenge was based on a Mojo Monday sketch.

The colours I used were Certainly Celery, Pumpkin Pie and Peach Parfait. I stamped the image (from the Pun Fun set) onto textured Very Vanilla cardstock using Staz-On in. Then, I stamped the image onto watercolour paper and, using aquapainters, coloured in the image. Once coloured, I cut out the image and popped it up using dimensionals.

The rest of the card used some simple embellishments in the form of ribbon and brads. Of course, a scallop border on one side for the finishing touch.

      Thanks for visiting.

      Deep, dark and red

      Inspired Crafters challenge

I made this card using another great sketch from Inspired Crafters.

I added a Cherry Cobbler paper pansy using the punched butterfly technique which has been quite popular lately. The paper combination of Early Expresso, Soft Suede and Crumb Cake is quickly becoming one of my favourites.

      Clean, crisp & linen

      Inspired Crafters challenge

The Inspired Crafters Challenge blog is back after a hiatus and I cannot be happier. They have very unique challenges and I always love what the design team comes up with.

This challenge I turned into a two-parter. The first part was to create a white-on-white card. I decided to go with a white-linen-black combination. The trick was to keep this card simple. It's my kind of card as I don't have much time and never really liked over-the-top cards.

The second part of the challenge was to create a Christmas card using a sketch:

      Nine Months..

This is a layout I created for Sketchabilities Challenge 34.

      Nine Months

      The sketch:

I'm finally scrapping my belly photos. This layout used all Stampin' Up! products except for the large black flower which has been sitting in my stash for at least two years now.

This was such an awesome sketch. Lots of layering and elements. I even had time to spritz the title with some gold smooch spray. I love this spray and I'm always looking for different ways to use it, even on my little boy's pages.

These amazing maternity photos were taken by a local photographer, Adam van Niekirk. Visit his blog here to see some great photos.

      Raise the Bar Challenge 43

      Raise the Bar 43

The challenge at Raise the Bar this week was to show some curves. This, I attempted to do with a multi-petaled, tropical flower. Lots of curves in those petals, baby.

The idea from this card came from the Idea Book & Catalogue. It's a great resource. My copy is beat up from all the sticky notes I have hanging out of it...not to mention the folded corners when inspiration hit and a sticky not was not in sight.

I used my Big Shot to make several elements on this card: the Vintage Wall embossing folder and the Island Floral Bigz Die to cut all the petals. The whole cutting and assembling went a lot faster than I thought it would.

      Thanks for looking!

      Eight Weeks

      Eight Weeks

I thought I would share a layout I made for the November sketch challenge at Art Freckles.

The sketch is from Page Maps. It's quite linear and I like linear. Rather than use two small 1.5" square photos, I stamped chubby owls from the Animal Stories set instead. I punched out some butterflies, hoping that the page didn't look too girly.

      Roll Over

      Roll Over

As part of Art Freckles' October scraplift challenge, I created a layout about my little one's first time rolling over.

Lots of different papers were used. Some retired and some I can't remember the name of. I used a bunch of Certainly Celery scraps and cut the paper into journaling strips. I was very pleased that I was able to repurpose the scrap paper.

      On my desk...

I have been MIA for a couple of weeks now. Mostly, it's due to sleep deprivation. My boy has decided to wake up every hour and a half and wants only mommy for comfort.

Nevertheless, I do have projects happening on my desk.

      On My Desk

I am starting a mini-Christmas album inspired by the December Daily project by Ali Edwards. I've made a keepsake tin for a friend. Inside, there is a scrapbook album which I plan to embellish. And I've used the fabric panels. It took 2 1/2 months, but I cut them up into flowers. I'm planning to make magnets.

Baby Z's 1st Halloween was pretty eventful. My little pumpkin started out his evening like this:

      Halloween with Z

and 2 blocks (or 30 minutes) later, his evening ended like this:

      Halloween with Z
