Peaceful

Peaceful

I {heart} this picture of Baby Z. He's looks so content. His chubby cheeks are puffed out and he has a hint of a sleep smile. This state is rare in his little world, so I had to snap a pic while I had a chance.

This layout is based on the Creative Scrappers #118 sketch.

Of course, I used various items in my stash to create the page. The craft cardstock, patterned paper strips and journalling spot are Scenic Route. The rest is Stampin' Up! Do you see the Certainly Celery cardstock embossed with the vintage wall folder? I used a letterpress technique to get the Pumpkin Pie ink to show.

A closer look:

Rather than creating a banner as in the sketch, I ruffled up some Daffodil Delight ribbon which I attached to the page with staples. Plus, I sprayed the entire layout with Gold Glow Smooch Spritz. (Awesome stuff!!)

A Garden Adventure

UBC Botanical Gardens

Last Thursday, as the caption on the photo states, we went on a little adventure to the UBC Botanical Gardens. A gorgeous, peaceful santuary located in Vancouver on the university campus.

There was a lot to see: the food garden, the alpine garden and the physic garden (ancient healing plants). Very cool and very educational.

We've had a very low-key summer so far. Most of our adventures will be happening within the next couple of weeks.

#1 Cousin

I am not the only crafter in my family.

The lovely button that Baby Z is wearing was made by his cousin, Claudia. She's only eight, but already an awesome paper crafter.

A closer look at the button:

I think she did a fabulous job with creating the flower fold and keeping with the monocromatic blue scheme.

A recent visit with Baby Z. Claudia is on the right.

On My Desk...

It's Wednesday! Visit http://www.stamping-ground.blogspot.com/ to see what fun happens on Wednesday.

I'm more of a "push to the sides and pile stuff high" kind of crafter. The candy wrapper from last week is still in that pile somewhere. I'm thinking about what to do with it. Of course, I have a variety of adhesives lying around and, always, lots of bits of cardstock.

On My Desk - Aug 25

I've been practicing watercolouring with my markers and stamp pads. I'm working my way toward larger images. Starting with small to medium images first. My iPod is always near.
On My Desk - Aug 25

What's new with Baby Z? Well, he's discovered nature. Rather, Grandpa's peach tree.

Look at those fingers go! Ooh, the destruction that lies ahead.

Sleep is for the weak!

Sleep is certainly precious. And while Baby Z and I are in the midst of a sleep regression, I thought I would take the opportunity to create a layout of his early sleeping habits for The Inspired Scrapper challenge. The photos were taken about 3 months ago.
Sleep is for the Weak

The sketch I followed:

I love the Play Date designer series paper. It's so cute that I am going to use up all of it for layouts! What I love about the paper I used for this layout is that it coordinates with a couple of stamp sets: Forest Friends and Funky Four. I used the owl from the Forest Friends set -- because what is more appropriate than a nocturnal animal to describe a baby's sleep patterns?

The base of the layout is in Crumb Cake (formerly craft), 12 x 12 textured cardstock. A variety of ribbons to dress it up.

Sleep will come one day...

The 1st Week

Another scrapbook page also for Art Freckles' August challenge.

1st Week

This was the sketch. I used it as a guideline.

I am trying to use up my seemingly never-ending stash of patterned paper. This layout features paper from Scenic Route and Stampin' Up! (Playdate DSP). Ribbons and button are SU! I also have a huge collection of letter stickers that I'm trying to get through. {Sigh}

Again, more mixing and matching with different products. Take the time to play with your stash. It may just fire up your paper crafting mojo.

Quick card!

Get Whale

A quick card using as much blue cardstock I had on hand: Bashful Blue, Marina Mist and Tempting Turquoise. This cute stamp is from the Pun Fun set.

A close-up:

Get Whale close

To give some texture, I used my Big Shot (a must!) and used the Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions folder. Hopefully, you can see the water out of the blowhole and ocean, which I accented with Crystal Effects. It gives a nice glossy look.

Thanks for dropping by. Have a great Saturday!

Thank You

Because I Care - Thanks purple

I made this elegant Thank You card for my mother who is planning on giving it to her former co-workers who planned her retirement party. Again, I used the "Because I Care" hostess set.

A variety of purples was used. The base of the card was concord crush. I stamped the image with Staz On ink onto watercolor paper and painted the image with watercolor markers. I love the watercoloring technique. If this is something that you would like to learn, contact me and I'll be happy to show you.

Accents like the blingy brad and a ribbon in Certainly Celery give just the right touch.

I Scrapbooked!

The paper kind!

Bath Fun

I created this layout for the August Sketch Challenge at Art Freckles. My little boy hated his first bath and screeched the entire time. Poor baby!

The base of this layout was in Basic Gray. I used the Playdate designer series paper for my background. The red patterned paper is from Scenic Route, but they are no longer in business. The letter stickers are from my huge stash of AC Thickers. Buttons and chocolate chip ribbon tied everything together.

I'm so glad that I have a little more time (although it's late at night!) to scrapbook again. It's also fun to mix and match current Stampin' Up! product with my existing stash and see that they all go great together.

On My Desk...

Well, last week seemed to be a bit of a different change of venue for me. This week, although we are still experiencing a heat wave, I stayed home. No coffee establishments today. Sorry. Maybe next week.

My desk:

Workdesk 63

As always, a state of creative chaos. :) Up close:

Workdesk 63 close view

Pictures of Baby Z that will make its way onto a scrapbook layout, a sponge wedge, punches, bits of paper, random cards... How do I find anything?? Oh, and the new candy wrapper die cut I made a couple of days ago with some scraps. Gotta love those scraps.

A question I was asked by a few people last week was "What do you pack so that you can craft at a coffee shop?" I guess it's like packing for a crop. I had my projects pre-planned, so the cutting, embossing and "big toy" stuff was prepared at home. To the coffee shop, I brought my mini paper trimmer, scissors, adhesives and different embellishments I hoped to use. Once at the shop, I spread out and started crafting away for a few hours...or people watched.

A smiley Baby Z. He's growing fast. He doesn't seem to mind the heat.

Hope you're having a great day! Thanks for dropping by! Check out Julia's blog for more Wednesday creative madness.

Yesterday, I announced the upcoming card class. Here's a closer look at the projects we'll be making.

These cards are full of sparkle and really easy to make. The Candy Cane Christmas paper provides such a variety of different designs that all your cards will stand out.

Stampin' Royalty #32

This is my first SR challenge -- ever!! Where have I been? And what have I been missing? The lovely goddesses of this challenge blog are super-talented and fun. I would know because we're all members of the same Stampin' Up! family.

Back to the challenge.
We were asked to create a crafty item with the colors above. So, I came up with this:

SR 32

I used the very popular hydrangea image from the Because I Care set - a hostess set, sadly, not for sale. The image was stamped with Staz-On ink onto watercolor paper. Using the Cherry Cobler marker and an aquapainter, I colored away.

The Daffodil Delight background was letter-pressed using the debossed side of the Vintage Wall folder. Cherry Cobler is the accent color. A satin ribbon in Not Quite Navy added the finishing touch.

Butterfly mini card

Flight - Mini Card

Today's card is a 3x3 mini card. What I love about this card is that it was quite easy to make, but has a lot of WOW.

A butterfly image and sentiment were stamped onto the Very Vanilla cardstock. A small piece of Early Expresso was embossed using the Vintage Wall embossing folder and punched with the butterfly punch. The punched butterfuy was adhered using a glue dot and the entire card was spritzed with gold glow smooch spritz. The spritz is great stuff. Just don't spray too closely.

Thanks for looking and hope you are having a fabulous day.

Things...

I would love to must own:

Things I Love

  1. The iPad. More than love it. Enough said.
  2. The Bumbleride Indie stroller in spice. I never thought I would be one of those parents who had to have the latest and greatest, but this stroller is amazing. Such a smooth ride for my Baby Z.
  3. The Bedford Project Table from Pottery Barn. My dream craft table.
  4. Cupcakes from Sprinkes.
All these things, except the cupcakes, are out of my price range. I can dream. Dream big!

Expresso & Orange...A Classic Combination

Cupcake Inspiration 71

An oldie, but a goodie technique that is making a comeback: emboss resist!

The colors were inspired by Cupcake Inspirations Challenge and the sketch from Sweet Sunday Sketches.

I love the Elements of Style set. I don't think I've said that enough. ;)

Cupcake Inspiration 71

Yikes! Bad lighting. What I did to achieve this look was stamp the image with Versa Mark ink and heat embossed with clear powder. I took my sponge, dabbed it in Pumpkin Pie classic ink and smudged away. Basically, I continued to sponge until I achieved the color I wanted.

The dark brown cardstock - Early Expresso - is my new fave! I think it's replaced Chocolate Chip. Expect to see a lot of this paper. I embossed this paper using the Vintage Wall embossing folder. It's new and it's awesome.

Thanks for looking!

My current desk

...is here:

On My Desk

Yes, I'm working out of a well-known coffee establishment. Why? Because I can & because my place is still very hot. This establishment has air-conditioning and, most importantly, free wi-fi. Albeit, it is a little slow, but enough for me. I wish I had an iPad though...

The photos were actually taken on Tuesday, but it's Wednesday and I'm pretty much at the same point that I was yesterday.

Current projects:

On My Desk

A card for a challenge that I will post later today. I feel my mojo slowly coming back. Enough that I broke out the heat gun and did a little emboss resist. Who knew emboss resisting could make a comeback? Love this Elements of Style stamp set.

On My Desk

I saw this post from fellow demo & sideline, Sabriena, and had to try it for myself. After a few sticky fingers and a couple of boo-boos, I ended up with the above. It still needs work as I can see where I made an incorrect fold.
Baby Z August 9

My sidekick & crafty buddy...sound asleep. Amazing! This never happens at home.

What's even more amazing? No one has come up to me and asked what I was doing with all my supplies laid out. Hmmm...there must be something much more interesting than a crafty mom & her sleeping baby lounging around at a well-known coffee establishment. :)

Thanks for stopping by. For more Wednesday inspiration, check out http://www.stamping-ground.blogspot.com/.

Bugs!

Clean & Simple FTL 102

My lady bugs card...inspired by the Clean & Simple FTL 102 challenge.

I made a similar card before with only one lady bug. With three bugs, I had to be a bit more aware of the spacing and I realize now that I should have used a smaller scallop punch. Oh well, live & learn.

The lighting is a little off due to the overhead fluorescent lights where I'm working. I used retired paper - Sending Love - to create the lady bug bodies and punched a circle for the heads. The ribbon is Real Red grosgrain and the sentiment is from the Flight of the Butterfly set.

A Great Reason to Join Stampin' Up!

My Wednesday evening...

Crafting blindfolded.

SSS Picnic 2010

What's this about?!?
On Wednesday, the Sea to Sky Stampers, the Stampin' Up! demo group that I am a part of, had our annual picnic in beautiful Trout Lake.

The photo above was one of our games: creating a project completely blindfolded while your partner gives directions. My partner was my completely un-crafty husband. He had no clue what a glue dots were. He does now.

SSS Picnic 2010

Now, it wasn't just all crafty games. The significant others and children played games too. One game had me absolutely giddy.

SSS Picnic 2010

This game involved wiggling an animal cracker from your forehead into your mouth using facial muscles. Yes, you read that sentence correctly.

Jon mastered this game and technique quite well. He'll be giving lessons next week.

SSS Picnic 2010

In the end, everyone was a winner.

SSS Picnic 2010

Fun times with a great group of demos and our families...can it get any better?

SSS Picnic 2010

Oh yeah, a happy baby who loves to craft too!

On My Desk...

Workdesk 61

Well, it's another WOYWW and I've decided that I'm no longer going to try and clean up my desk. It's late Tuesday night. Baby Z is asleep -- finally -- and I have time for myself. Let chaos reign!

I picked up my 12x12 prints yesterday and dumped them on the desk to sort into the appropriate albums later. Much later. Maybe even next Wednesday. Yikes.

The top layout is a "Belly Montage" using a digital template from Songbird Avenue. The background is a digi patterned paper from Rhonna Farrer. Here's a closer look:

Workdesk 61 (1)

I took a photo of my pregnant-rapidly-expanding-belly from 26 weeks onward. Rather than print each individual photo, it just seemed easier to make a montage digitally. I may just be headed down the digital path for right now since it's a little quicker for me. I realize I may have violated Stampin' Up!'s IDA by directing to another company & product. Oh well, bring it on...

Lacking motivation to scrap and make cards. Part of it is due to the heat and part of it is questioning whether I want to continue as a demo or not. Lots to think about there.

What's a Wednesday without a photo of Baby Z?

Baby Z August 2

My little buddy likes playing with his reflection in the mirror. He and Daddy have recently started playing this game.

For those who inquired, I still have stamps & accessories available. See this post for details.
