Love & a scrunchie flower

I'm in love with the scrunchy flower.

Cardabilities 23

This card was inspired by the Cardabilities sketch below

and the colour combo from the Cupcake Inspiration Challenge.

Just A Note

I wanted to create a layout without photographs, just words.

Just A Note

The story behind the layout: I was having an extremely rough day. My son was only 19 days old and I was going insane! Perhaps it was the newness of motherhood, the hormones, the sleep-deprivation...whatever...things were not going well. I wrote a note to my husband describing a few things that happened that day.

The journalling: "19 days old and already driving your mother insane. A note to your father about our day. Not good."

On my desk...

Hello. Thanks for visiting my desk. Join in at www.stamping-ground.blogspot.com.

WOYWW 86

A blank canvas. I am going to try to do a layout without photos, just journalling and embellishments. This will be a fun exercise and I hope I can develop better writing skills from it. Ignore the mess around the layout.

Pretending to be He-Man

Baby Z with his arms in the air. I think it's funny that his arms can't go over his head yet. (Mean Mommy, yes, I know). He is pretending to be He-Man, a 1980's cartoon and action figure. When prompted, he will throw his hands into the air as if he is brandishing a sword. That's what happens when he is in the care of an uncle who lived on 80's cartoons.

Thanks for visiting and have a fabulous day!

Project 365: Week 3

Here's a look at Week 3 of Project Life.

Project 365: Week 3

These are photos I plan to print at a later date and insert into my Project Life album. This photo of the day template is available from Anna Apsnes. I typed in the days of the week in Photoshop in my own font.

Sunday: Grocery shopping. Bought herbs.
Monday: Baby Z is learning to stand on his own with some help from Mommy.
Tuesday: A close-up of Baby Z. He's flashing his two teeth.
Wednesday: A blurry photo of us with the self-timer. I realized later that the camera was focused on the lamp behind us. Ugh!
Thursday: Daddy and Baby Z taking a break from some hard work at the computer.
Friday: Grandpa's birthday.
Saturday: Grandpa and Baby Z. The babe fell asleep during the party and Grandpa missed his chance for a photo. We did a do-over Saturday evening.

Getting ready to crawl

I played along with Creative Prompts and this is what I came up with:

Crawl

The challenge required that I use particular items in the layout. They included ledger paper, polka dot paper, ribbon as well as a popped embellishment (the 'Z')

Crawl - foot

and fingerprints. The fingerprint challenge was hard. I inked my fist in craft coloured ink and made a small foot. I used my pinky finger to make the toes.

I think I covered everything. This challenge was fun and got me thinking very hard.

The story behind the layout: At six months old, my boy is getting mobile. He pops up on all fours and rocks back and forth. I know he's eager to get moving and his cheeky grin is telling me that he's ready to cause trouble. Mobility. Another milestone.

Thanks for stopping by today.

A milestone birthday

The other day, my mom asked if I could make a card for a friend who will be celebrating her 60th birthday this weekend. "Why, of course!" How silly to ask.

Create with Connie & Mary #134

I based my card on the sketch challenge at Create with Connie and Mary.

With this clean and simple sketch, I used neutrals colours of gray, white and black with a pop of pink. I ran the black strip of paper through the Big Shot with the perfect polka dots embossing folder. I distressed the textured white cardstock with gray ink and punched a strip of pink paper with a scallop border punch.

Create with Connie & Mary #134

The striped and plain grosgrain ribbon were layered on top of each other and ruffled. The scallop circle was punched out of pink paper and a circle out of white textured cardstock. They were layered using several dimensionals to give the embellishment enough height. The sentiment "look who's turning" was stamped onto pink paper and punched with the modern label punch. The number "60" was die cut using the Big Shot.

This card was fun and quick to put together. Quick cards are my kind of cards.

Cardabilities #22

I love the Cardabilities challenges! They have amazing sketches.

It's going to be a quick post today. Here is my card:

Cardabilities 22

I love red and black as a colour combo. I'm slowly getting into the Valentine's Day spirit, making a few cards here and there.

Thanks so much for visiting!

Bliss

Another great word challenge at 365 cards - Bliss.

For me, bliss is chocolate! Mmmmmmm! Chocolate and orange - even better!

365 Cards Day 325 - Bliss

I used the Crazy for Cupcakes set to create this card. I added glitter to the orange frosting for that bling factor. The card base is soft suede textured cardstock. I layered early expresso, chocolate chip and peach parfait cardstock. A ribbon in early expresso and a button were added for the finishing touch.

Yummy. Off to eat a cupcake.

Believe

Tuesday's word at 365 Cards was "Believe". The challenge was to create a card that evoked this meaning.

365 Cards Day 324 - Believe

For this card, I used a sentiment from the Word Play stamp set. To me, "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams", is a great sentiment to motivate someone if they need a little nudge or are at a crossroads and to let the receiver know you believe in them.

Unfortunately, this photo is over saturated. I took the photo under very low light and over compensated when I tried to adjust the colour. The colours I used were peach parfait and pretty in pink. The patterned paper is from Scenic Route.

On my desk...

Hello. Welcome to my messy desk this week.

WOYWW 85

No scrapbooking or cardmaking today.

I have the same "one little word" each year - or at least the same theme - simplicity, minimalism or declutter. My desk is definitely one of those things I need to declutter. Very tempted to throw everything into a garbage bag and start fresh, but I thought better and would tackle one thing at a time.

Today, I thought I'd start on my CD collection. They just sit under a pile of stuff on my desk. Since I spend a lot of time browsing blogs (and desks!), I figured I could downsize my collection and start importing them into the computer. One CD a night. That's the plan and in a few months, I plan to donate the CDs to a good cause. Wish me luck.

Baby Z Jan 2011

Here's my cheeky little buddy. Baby Z is climbing everywhere! And learning to stand without support. Great. I guess I should start locking the door to the craft room.

Hope your day is fabulous. Join the desk-hopping adventure at www.stamping-ground.blogspot.com.

Project 365 Tuesday

I'm playing along with Project Life Tuesday over at The Mom Creative. This is to keep me motivated at keeping up to date with the photo-a-day project.

This week was not a very good week as far as photography goes. I was not inspired to take photos. Nothing really jumped out at me. I did some searching and found this neat link for weekly photo prompts.

Here is a snapshot of our week.

Project Life Tuesday: Week 2

This week, we visited Grouse Mountain and played in the snow. We stayed home for most of the week, visited friends and were generally lazy. DH was lucky to have a few days off this week - a rarity.

Most of my photos are of Baby Z as he is the most interesting subject to photograph. Hopefully, with the photo prompts, I can branch out and take photos of other things.

Thanks for visiting. Hope your photo-a-day project is going well.

Congratulations to some dear friends!

We learned, not too long ago, that some friends were expecting their second child. Rather than go the typical baby route, I opted for non-traditional colours.

The colours were inspired from Create with Connie and Mary's colour challenge

and a sketch from Inkspirations Challenges:

My card, inspired by both challenges:

CCMC 133

I used the Vintage Wall embossing folder on the chocolate chip cardstock. The butterfly stamp is from a hostess set called Punch Potpourri. A gold glimmer brad holds the butterfly in place. On the newsprint paper, I stamped small butterflies using a stamp from the Flight of the Butterfly set.

Here is a close-up of the butterfly:

CCMC 133 close up

I stamped the butterfly in chocolate chip and old olive and punched out the images. They were layered on top of each other with the desired effect being that the chocolate chip created a shadow.

Now this card does not look like a baby card - but that's okay. I think our friends will appreciate receiving a more adult-looking card. They will definitely be receiving plenty of baby cards in the days and weeks to come.

Cardabilities #20

I'm playing along with Cardabilites sketch #20.

My card:

Cardabilties 20

I wanted to make a Valentine's Day card in non-traditional colors. Orange and blue seem to fit that bill. I had this pale blue shimmer paper in my stash for ages and I, finally, decided to cut it up. It pained me to make that first cut, but once I did, the creative juices started flowing.

The owl punch: Best. Punch. Ever. This punch may replace the threading water punch as my all-time favorite. The leaves were cut out using the Big Shot and the Sizzlits Little Leaves die.  I stamped the hearts using the I {Heart} Heart set and wrote "love" with my journaling pen.

I notice now that there is a little red mark in the girl owl's eye! Ahhhh! Well, I guess I can peel it off and put an unstained one in.

Loving the shimmer. Loving the texture. Thanks for stopping by today!

Background Stamping

This is a new challenge for me: Tuesday Throwdown issued a background stamping challenge.

Tuesday Throwdown 31

I used Notably Ornate set as my background. Images from Artistic Etchings and I {Heart} Hearts were stamped and popped up with dimensionals. The colours I used were Bravo Burgundy, Cherry Cobler, Very Vanilla and Basic Black. I love the Very Vanilla textured cardstock as it gives this card a romantic feeling.

Thanks for dropping by.

Pencil Lines Sketch 220

I hope I made it just in time for Pencil Lines Sketch 220 challenge.

I am loving the grid design by sketch designer Jennifer Pebbles. Clean and simple. Here's my take:

Delight

The story behind the layout: Some fun photos of my baby boy at 6 months. He was well into smiling and sitting up on his own.
Rather than using ribbon for the border as I normally would, I used a border sticker. I also used a portion of a border sticker in one of the squares. Love the border stickers since all I had to do was slap it down.

Swinging Baby

I love finding new challenge blogs, so when I found Sassy Lil' Sketches, I jumped right in.

Sassy Lil Sketch Jan 7 2011

The sketch:

The story behind the layout: I love seeing the changes in my baby. Although there were only three weeks between the top photos and the bottom photos, I'm still amazed at the differences: more control when grasping objects, starting to sit a little more upright and growing up.

Thanks for stopping by!
