So Shelli Challenge

After attending the Stampin' Up! regional event in Vancouver on Saturday, I was full of ideas that I wanted to try and duplicate at home. I met some amazing stampers and got reacquainted with several others. And I was thrilled to see Stampin' Up!'s CEO, Shelli Gardner, in the flesh.

And...I won a prize from the Prize Patrol! I wish I had a picture of my euphoria. I was so excited and somehow filled with energy that I didn't know I had from waking up at 6 AM. I won the Create a Cupcake set which is perfect because we all know about my love for cupcakes. :)

Of course, I didn't get to as much creating and recreating as I wanted that evening as life called. Baby Z missed his mom since I was gone the entire day. We had never been apart longer than a few hours, so this was a new experience for both of us. I missed my boy too.

I managed to make this card using the Sale-A-Bration set, Bliss, in time for Shelli's Creative Challenge. It's elegant and vintage. I decided to take a modern twist and combine the colours of Crumb Cake, Pumpkin Pie and Peach Parfait.

So Shelli Creative Challenge

This card took about 15 minutes to make from start to finish. That's my kind of card. Quick and easy, but still lovely.

Thanks for stopping by!

My sleeping beauties

So, it's the end of the month. Valentine's Day is over. I found time to play over at Scrap That Baby! and Art Freckles and make a layout about love.

Art Freckles dared me to use this sketch from PageMaps and Scrap That Baby! challenged me to create a layout that started with "I love".

Here is the layout:

my sleeping beauties

The story behind the layout: It was an early morning. Most likely due to multiple wakings and exhaustion, Baby Z ended up in our bed (again!). I woke up to the sweetest sight - my boys in blissful slumber. How I was coordinated enough to get the camera, I'll never know.

The stuff I used: I used Sahara Sand cardstock as my base. The patterned paper is the Ice Cream Parlour DSP, which is a freebie from the Sale-A-Bration catalogue, with a qualifying purchase. I punched the three large circles with the new 2 1/2" punch out of various stashes of paper. Lots of buttons and lots of hearts punched from glimmer paper. I added the Tangerine Tango pom-pom trim to the bottom of my layout because it's so cute.

My swap for regionals

Today, I am at the Vancouver Convention Centre attending my first ever (!) Stampin' Up! event! I'm so excited.

I'm sharing my swap with you.

Regional swap

I wasn't able to make as many as I would have liked, partly because I ran out of supplies and partly due to fatigue. That's the other reason my blogging has been so sparse lately. I'm just so tired.

I wanted to create an upbeat card and decided on the color combo of rich razzleberry, certainly celery and peach parfait. I used the Thanks for Caring set for the sentiment. The patterned paper is from the Ice Cream Parlour pack. It's such a fun paper pack with lots of matching elements.

Thanks for looking! I'm off to play with other Stampin' Up! die hards!

A warm cup of heart

This week, I have the pleasure of being a guest bartender at Raise the Bar! Our assignment is "Mug Shot", that is, to create a card that depicts a hot beverage.

Here is my card:

Raise the Bar guest designer

I used some sketch inspiration from Stampin' Royalty. The sketch was a starting point as the card does not follow the sketch exactly.

Of course, this card has shades of orange. I sponged Newsprint DSP with pumpkin pie. To create the mugs, I used the cupcake base from the Build a Cupcake punch and drew in handles with a marker. The sentiment is from the set, Thanks for Caring, available in the current mini catalogue. I punched out hearts from glimmer paper and added other accents like black ribbon, pearls and "steam" using a stamp from the Elements of Style set.

Thanks very much to Joni and Raise the Bar for letting me be a guest designer this week. Thanks for visiting!

Valentine's Treat Bag

So, I'm a week late, but I thought I'd post the treat bag I made for Valentine's Day anyway and decided to submit to the Inspired Crafters' Anything But A Card Challenge.

Valentine's bag

I can't get enough of the glimmer paper. It rocks! I have one sheet left, so we'll see what else I can use it for.

The top note die is probably my favorite die. I cut two pieces: one in white and one in glimmer paper and layered them on top of each other. Then, I stamped a heart from Punch Potpourri onto a bag. The sentiment is from the Eat Chocolate set. A great stamp set. Totally wanted needed that set. I filled it with candy and attached the top note piece to the top of the bag.

Mmmm. Chocolaty goodness. Thanks for looking! Off to get eat a chocolate bar.

White on white challenge

The Inspired Crafter's white on white challenge was great fun for me. I love monochromatic schemed cards.

Inspired Crafters Feb 2011 Challenge

This is card isn't completely white as I couldn't resist using some sparkly embossing powder to make the flower petals stand out a little more. I sure do love the Build a Blossom set and punch. It beats having to cut out the petals by hand!

I used the Elegant Bouquet embossing folder on the card base. The flower petals were popped up with dimensionals. I added a brad from the hodgepodge hardware set. The sentiment is from the Create a Cupcake set.

Off to make another monochromatic card. Maybe orange on orange???

Thanks for looking!

Lost track of time...

So, this week started off with Valentine's Day...

And I forgot to post the card I gave to my honey.

Cardabilities 24

The lighting was rather dark when I took the picture, so the glitter paper doesn't show the true red colour. I used the framed tulips embossing folder on the crumb cake base of the card. I layered strips of very vanilla, early espresso and newsprint DSP and added ribbon, buttons, linen thread and the punched glitter hearts. The sentiment "Bliss" is from a Sale-A-Bration set called Bliss.

Everyday is bliss with you babe!

The card was based on a sketch from Cardabilties:

Inspired Crafters sketch challenge

I finally broke into the box of sale-a-bration goodies that have been sitting underneath my craft table for a few weeks now. I don't know anyone who could have resisted playing with all the fun product for that long!

Inspired Crafters Feb 2011 Challenge

This colourful birthday card uses patterned paper and buttons from the Ice Cream Parlor set. The trim is new and awesome! It's called pom-pom trim in Tangerine Tango. Love it!

The card was inspired by this sketch from the Inspired Crafters:

I love Banu's sketches. As you can see, I stayed pretty close to the sketch.

Non-traditional Valentine colors

The challenge at Raise the Bar this week is to create a Valentine's Day card without any pink or red.

So, I came up with kraft, espresso, vanilla and yellow.

Raise the Bar 53

I've been seeing a lot of cards with big buttons on them, so I included a couple on this card.

Raise the Bar 53

I sponged a daisy with yellow ink, stamped "amour" onto a yellow tag and slapped it on. Then, I spritz (or splotched) gold mist all around. Kind of vintage, kind of funky.

Two for the show

A toughie challenge for One-Layer Wednesday: Use two image stamps and no sentiment. What?!? No sentiment? One-layer?

OLW 40

I gave it a try. The first layer, from the Notably Ornate set, was a little smudged, but I kept the image as is. The image was stamped in early espresso. The heart was stamped with VersaMark ink and heat embossed using red embossing powder. Love the heat gun!

No sentiment. If you're at a loss as to what occasion this could be used for (and there are several possibilities), leave me a comment and I'll set you in the right direction.

Thanks for dropping by!

Hearts and lots of them!

Stampin Royalty 58

This week's challenge at Stampin' Royalty is "Hearts, hearts and more hearts!" I realized that I haven't used any of my glitter paper or any of my new stash. Crazy, isn't it?

For this card, I had to use the mess-free glitter paper and punched out hearts with various punches. The hearts were arranged on a top-note die cut, which was sponged with real red ink, and adhered to chocolate chip cardstock. Yum.

I scrunched up the ribbon and then gave up part way because it was late and I was getting tired. I decided to leave it as is.

Hope your day is fantastic. Thanks for visiting.

On my desk...

Last week, I wasn't around to share my desk because I was in Hawaii!

My desk before I left:

My desk right now:

I'm sorting through all the stubs and trinkets collected on this trip, deciding what to keep, what to throw out or use on another layout.

Of course, the babe.

365: Week 4 & 5

Catching up on the last two weeks. Join in at The Mom Creative.

Week 4:

365: Week 4

A fairly eventful week. Baby Z learned that if he angled himself the right way, he could see the TV a little better. He has discovered "Thomas and Friends". Although he doesn't understand the program, he likes dancing to the song at the end of the show. He's also learned to wave goodbye and waves to everybody.

We celebrated my little bro's birthday a couple of days early because we were leaving for vacation. You can see someone in the suitcase trying to help with the packing.

Week 5:

365: Week 5

We are in Honolulu, HI!!! I was looking forward to this trip for a long time. We booked it shortly after Baby Z was born. The weather was fantastic. We did so much and had a blast.

Sunday: Pro Bowl. Enough said.
Monday: USS Arizona Memorial and the North Shore
Tuesday: Honolulu Zoo
Wednesday: Shopping (Yay!!)
Thursday: Snorkeling
Friday: Swimming
Saturday: The flight home

Right now, my album looks like this:

365: Week 5 inserts

365: Week 5 inserts

For the all the memorabilia I collected during the trip, I inserted a 6-up page protector. It's hard to see from the pictures, but the page protector holds six 6x4 photographs.

365: Week 5 inserts

Once I have some photos in there, you'll get a better idea of what I mean. I hope.

Have a great week and thanks for visiting!
